Judge N.M. Wolfe received a letter from S.L. Allen of Great Bend, Kan., informing him that G.F. Mecklem, Mr. Wolfe's uncle, had been killed at Great Bend Tuesday night, June 16, at 11 o'clock during a cyclone.  Mr. Mecklem was carried about 50 feet from his residence and when found a cook stove was lying near him, showing the terrific force of the gale.  His wife was carried about the same distance, but was not injured seriously.  A grandson, aged 19, was raised 10 feet in the air and carried 50 or 60 feet and landed safely.

The family had retired when the storm struck the home.

The deceased was an uncle to W.S. Mecklem of this city and had a number of relatives in this county.
